In 1696, King William III became fascinated with ice skating and requested John Wilson, a noted toolmaker in Sheffield, England to make a pair of skate blades for him. The world of ice skating has not been the same since.
The reputation of John Wilson grew, and in 1841, Queen Victoria instructed John Wilson & Marsden Bros Ltd. to make her and Prince Albert a pair of ice skates.
